When trying to lose weight, it is only natural that we seek results as quickly as possible. We want to see that the sacrifices we are making with eating or lifestyle changes are working for us. However, a “quick fix “is not quick, nor is it a fix. The age-old expression “slow and steady wins the race” could not be more true when we are working hard to obtain a healthy mind and body.
While there may not be a fast track to losing weight the safe way, there are some EASY things you can to do help you on your path to health and wellness. Mindful eating is probably one of the most important things you can practice every day and it is very simple to incorporate into your daily routine. When you eat without distractions, you are able to slow everything down and let the mind-body connection happen. If you are sitting and eating your meal without a screen, newspaper or other distraction in front of you, you will not only be surprised how much better the food tastes but you will be more satisfied. Slowing down the process will actually allow you to hear your stomach say to you “hey, I’ve had enough” so you don’t overeat.
It’s hard to make permanent lifelong changes, but with time and practice, there are certainly things you can do to jump start the process. October is a month packed with fall goodies and punctuated by a Halloween filled with sugar. The good news is you can still enjoy these things by slowing down and being mindful. Don’t deprive yourself before Halloween because you may end up binging on Halloween candy. Just slow down and pace yourself and you’ll be able to enjoy some sweet treats without blowing everything you’ve worked so hard for.
