Remember back in January when you made that resolution? The resolution that this year was the year that you were going to get healthy! You were going to eat right and exercise! Maybe you made it a few weeks or even a few months….Maybe you found a new diet that you were able to stick to for a while. For those 1st few weeks you thought “this is easy! I can do this!”, only to return to your old habits, feeling dejected….like a failure. Now you are “thinking why can’t I do it?….It’s easy for other people” and “I really WANT to be fit and healthy! I know what to do!….why can’t I make healthy choices?”
I’m here to tell you why! To tell you why your desire to be healthy and fit is not in line with your choices and behavior.
You don’t need more information about what to eat!
You don’t need a new popular diet…the one that “all the celebrities use!”
You don’t need a new exercise fad!
You need to THINK about food, eating, and exercise in a new way!
If you have been unsuccessful over and over again at making healthy choices, you are not alone! You are not weak! And, You are not a failure! It’s just that you were never taught HOW to eat! That’s where I come in J
First, some background….
Every choice you make is guided by your thoughts. Your thoughts may be words that you say to yourself (that little voice inside your head), or they may come in images (pictures and scenes). These thoughts elicit emotional responses or feelings that then lead to actions. This is called the “Cognitive Model.” To simplify…..
Here is but one, of MANY, possible scenarios as an example…..
These thoughts are automatic. They come and go so quickly you might not even realize your having them. Also, it is easy to see how your choice, to eat the cake in this example, can lead to new thoughts that result in other poor choices. For instance, after eating the cake you may say to yourself “I already ruined my diet. I might as well let it go and eat whatever I want.” This can turn a 500-calorie mistake into a 2000-calorie mistake very quickly! A downward spiral in a blink of an eye.
