We all “fall” for the grandeur of fall. The foliage, the pumpkins, the cornstalks and the apples. Then, there is the pumpkin pie, the apple pie and the cider donuts with a Thanksgiving feast right around the corner. While you can still fall for the beauty of the season and all it has to offer, you don’t have to fall for your sabotaging thoughts! If you can begin to look at how your thoughts are negatively impacting your weight loss and overall wellness and health goals this season, you can get ahead of the game this time of the year and learn how to eat responsibly by altering your decision making.
Before you gather with family and friends, think about what goal you may have that will help prevent you from making bad choices at the dining room table. Maybe you are going to a holiday party and want to wear a really nice dress you bought. Maybe you don’t want to be in the position where you’ll have to make another New Year’s resolution that involves weight loss. Or maybe you want to be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal without feeling horribly stuffed and guilty for once. Everyone has a different goal and you just need to discover what yours is and then approach the table with that goal in mind.
Instead of justifying why you should have that second helping or extra dessert, start justifying why you shouldn’t have it so that you can achieve that goal. You can still experience the edible joys of the season without negatively impacting your health goals. As you fill your plate this season, remember to fill your mind as well with at least one goal to keep you on track and you’ll feel happier and healthier for it!
