Acceptance is one of the hardest things to deal with when it comes to our bodies. We each have our personal struggles that we face every day when it comes to health and weight loss. For me, menopause presented a huge challenge that I wasn’t quite expecting. It has changed my body and my clothes don’t fit the way they used too. However, I understand that if I panic and go on a restrictive diet just to fit back into a pair of jeans, I will be in a much worse situation down the road.
We are always our own worst critic, but our bodies are going to change and we need to accept that. It is important to nourish our bodies as best we can and accept where it is because the alternative of gaining weight and poor health is much worse. You may think you are in control when you consider dieting to lose weight, however, if you restrict yourself in these extreme, unsustainable ways, the weight will come back on with even more vengeance on your metabolism. Every day, my personal goal is to maximize the nourishment of my body but also enjoy the foods I love in a responsible way.
Having the wisdom to recognize what you can and can’t control when seeking the healthiest and fittest body is key. Buying into fad diets and restrictive eating plans is not wise, but changing your relationship with food so it is not on your mind all the time will help you to stop depriving yourself. A healthy and nourished body comes in all shapes and sizes and once we accept that, we can achieve our realistic wellness goals much more easily.
